Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a wide array of characters, and a exciting storyline featuring divine entities, fiends, and sinister influences expanding in power within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season are included.
The Warrior Group Introduced
The third episode finished on a major cliffhanger and introduced the first table of characters who will separate from the primary party to undertake their separate journey, distinct from the remaining groups.
This warrior group features Teor (portrayed by Travis), the agile character (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
Dividing the Cast
With 13 cast members, it was obvious from the beginning that maintaining everyone at one table would be impossible.
This explains, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, connecting the individual narratives before branching into three distinct groups: Fighters, Planners, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
Per the DM, the Soldiers table is for players who prefer a traditionally charged battle-oriented gameplay experience where non-violent answers are few and far between.
At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might seem mismatched, but the actions of episode 3 demonstrate why these specific adventurers are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Reasons to Leave
For one thing, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a violent opening clash with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose demise kicked off the narrative’s action—manipulated the enemy for his personal gain, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the rogue, and taking all the magical artifacts to dispose of.
The traitor then settled his debts and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the urban center, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.
Character Drivers
Moreover, each adventurer has a specific drive to exit the metropolitan area:
- The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, desires vengeance.
- Kattigan is familiar with Timmony and cautions that it is a dangerous location.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having defied his family’s wishes to execute Teor and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- However, their reputation as important members in House Halovar could help the team access locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, Teor vowed a eternal obligation to Wicander for his deliverance and will now accompany him wherever.
Pursued by Authorities
Finally, all of them are wanted by the rulers that rule the city for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:
- The agile adventurer and The character are notorious outlaws.
- The warrior and The healer turned against the influential house and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- The target is marked for death by the family.
This leaves them little choice but to travel to the northern region in quest for the traitor.
Future Episodes
From episode three’s follow-up content, we discover that the Soldiers table will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight cast members to form the Questers and Planners groups.
Audiences can expect learning which players will be where in the season’s last Overture episode, released on October 24.
